NEHHDC has successfully concluded the 10-day ‘Threads & Beads: Jewellery Crafting Training Programme’, which commenced on February 25, 2025, and culminated today with ‘Alankaar’, a vibrant exhibition showcasing the participants’ handcrafted jewellery. The event also marked the celebration of Pre-International Women’s Day, highlighting the role of women artisans in the handicrafts sector.
Throughout the training, participants honed their jewellery-making skills and crafted approximately 75 unique jewellery pieces, incorporating techniques such as macrame, yarn manipulation, beadwork, and intricate thread weaving. The exhibition provided a platform for the participants to display these creations alongside their own independently designed pieces, demonstrating the techniques and craftsmanship they had developed over the course of the program.
The closing ceremony was graced by Shri H.K. Baro, Regional Director, North East Region, DC Handicrafts, as the Chief Guest. He commended the participants for their craftsmanship and creativity, recognizing their efforts in preserving and innovating traditional jewellery-making techniques. Shri Baro was also briefed on the Jewellery and Handicrafts Livelihood Business Incubator and the Centre of Excellence for Handicrafts, both of which play a crucial role in promoting skill development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihood opportunities in the region.
Smt. Anu Mandal, Chairperson and Managing Director of Ava Creations Social Impact Foundation, attended as the Special Guest. She shared her inspiring journey as a woman entrepreneur in the handicrafts industry, encouraging participants to explore entrepreneurship and apply their newly acquired skills to build sustainable careers. Her experiences resonated with the trainees, motivating them to pursue excellence in their craft and explore market opportunities for their products.
The training program was met with enthusiastic participation and positive feedback, with attendees expressing deep appreciation for the opportunity to enhance their skills. Many participants acknowledged the practical knowledge, expert guidance, and hands-on experience they received, which will enable them to create market-ready jewellery pieces. The program not only empowered artisans with technical expertise but also instilled confidence and business acumen, reinforcing NEHHDC’s commitment to skill development, women empowerment, and the promotion of traditional handicrafts.
With the successful completion of this training and exhibition, NEHHDC continues to support and uplift artisans, ensuring that traditional craftsmanship remains a thriving and sustainable economic avenue for future generations.
