The North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) has officially commenced the Women’s Week 2025 celebrations from 3rd to 9th March, as part of a nationwide initiative under the FIT India Mission and the Sports Authority of India. This week-long event is dedicated to honoring the contributions of women across various sectors, particularly in the handlooms and handicrafts industry, while also promoting their physical well-being, empowerment, and professional growth.

The celebration is designed to actively engage women in a series of thoughtfully curated activities aimed at encouraging fitness, self-care, skill development, and leadership. The program includes fitness challenges, self-defense training, nutrition and wellness sessions, mental health awareness programs, yoga sessions, debates on gender equality and adventure sports, and a grand walkathon and fitness rally on the final day. The main highlight of the week will be the observance of International Women’s Day on 8th March, where special events such as seminars on women in adventure sports, yoga sessions, and motivational talks will be conducted to recognize and empower women in various fields.

Each day of the Women’s Week Celebration is planned with a specific activity to promote holistic well-being:

  • 3rd March: The week begins with Fitness Challenges, Aerobics, Zumba, and a Marathon to promote physical activity among women, encouraging them to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
  • 4th March: Sports Activities for Women will be held to foster engagement in physical sports and recreational activities.
  • 5th March: A special session on Diet & Nutrition will be conducted to educate women on healthy eating habits and balanced diets for overall well-being.
  • 6th March: Self-Defense & Martial Arts Training will be provided to empower women with skills for self-protection and confidence building.
  • 7th March: A session on Mental Health & Wellness will be held, addressing issues related to stress management, emotional well-being, and mindfulness.
  • 8th March: On International Women’s Day, a Yoga Session and Debates/Seminars will be conducted, with a focus on the theme of Women in Adventure Sports.
  • 9th March: The grand finale will feature a Walkathon and Fitness Rally, symbolizing strength, unity, and the spirit of women’s empowerment.

The event was graced by NEHHDC’s Managing Director, Shri Mara Kocho, IES, who delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the critical role of women in shaping the socio-economic landscape, particularly in the traditional arts and crafts sector. In his address, he emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment, financial independence, and leadership in today’s rapidly evolving world. He further acknowledged the efforts of women artisans, professionals, and employees of NEHHDC, applauding their dedication and resilience. He encouraged all participants to make the most of the week-long activities, which are aimed at promoting physical wellness, skill development, and professional growth.

Through this initiative, NEHHDC aims to empower women artisans, professionals, and employees by providing them with a platform to enhance their skills, physical and mental health, and professional capabilities. The celebration also reinforces NEHHDC’s commitment to gender equality, workplace inclusivity, and the promotion of traditional art forms by ensuring that women in the handicrafts and handloom sector receive the recognition and opportunities they deserve.
