NEHHDC recently achieved a milestone by distributing tool kits to 50 artisans in Mahendraganj, South West Garo Hills, Meghalaya, on the 14th of March, 2024. This initiative was carried out under the Improved Toolkit Distribution Programme (ITDP) specifically for the Hand Embroidery Craft sector as part of the National Handicraft Development Program (NHDP) under the Development Commissioner (Handicraft). The primary objectives of this program were:
- To provide essential tools and equipment to artisans to enhance their productivity and quality of work in the Hand Embroidery Craft sector.
- To support and promote skill development and entrepreneurship among artisans in Meghalaya, particularly in rural areas like Mahendraganj.
- To empower artisans by equipping them with the necessary resources to sustain and grow their businesses in the handicraft industry.
- To contribute to the preservation and promotion of traditional crafts and cultural heritage in the region through targeted interventions and support programs.
- To facilitate socio-economic development and empowerment of artisans and their communities by creating avenues for sustainable livelihoods and income generation opportunities.
