The inaugural ceremony of the Entrepreneurship Development Program on Sericulture & Silk Value Chain was held with great success on October 25th at the NEHHDC campus in Garchuk, Pamohi, Assam. This significant event was a collaborative effort between the Central Silk Board and the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles. The program was designed to foster entrepreneurial growth in the sericulture sector and promote the development of the silk value chain, with a focus on empowering artisans and entrepreneurs from the Northeastern region.
The program aimed to uplift the traditional silk industry by providing a structured platform for entrepreneurship development, skill enhancement, and industry-academia partnerships. Through a series of initiatives, the program will help entrepreneurs navigate the silk value chain, from sericulture practices to silk production, marketing, and global outreach. The event featured a distinguished line-up of industry experts and leaders, including Kajori Rajkhowa (ACS Director of Sericulture Assam), Kartik Neog (Director, CSB-CMERTI), Jiban Chandra Dhekial Phukan (Senior Scientist, Retired) and Dr. Siddique Ali Ahmed (Scientist and Nodal Officer Samarth, CSB). Their presence underscored the commitment to revitalizing the silk industry in the Northeast and recognizing its vast potential to contribute to both local livelihoods and the national economy.
The event concluded with a positive note on the future of sericulture and entrepreneurship in the region, with participants expressing optimism about the training and development opportunities that the program will unlock.
