At Chiang Mai Design Week 2025, NEHHDC—through the Ministry of DoNER and NEC—proudly presents sixteen exceptional artisans who represent the craftsmanship, cultural depth, and creative diversity of Northeast India. Each artisan brings a distinct tradition, material vocabulary, and design sensibility, showcasing the remarkable talent found across all eight states of the region.
From the intricate beadwork and textiles of Arunachal Pradesh, the refined woodcraft traditions of Sikkim, and the contemporary Naga pottery and craft forms of Nagaland, to the elegant handloom excellence of Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur, these artisans embody both heritage and innovation. Their work spans crochet crafts, indigenous weaving, kauna grass craftsmanship, silk-based home furnishings, bead artistry, painted ceramics, wooden decor, and fashion-led textile reinterpretations—each rooted in local identity yet resonant with global design language.
This collective showcase highlights not just the mastery of individual creators but the strength of the Northeast’s interconnected craft ecosystems. By bringing together traditional techniques, natural materials, and evolving design narratives, these artisans reflect a region that continues to innovate while honouring its cultural origins.
NEHHDC’s participation at Chiang Mai Design Week provides these artisans with a platform to engage with international buyers, designers, and creative communities—expanding market access, fostering collaborations, and opening new opportunities for growth. Through this initiative, supported by DoNER and NEC, the rich artisanal heritage of Northeast India finds renewed visibility and appreciation on the global stage.
