Garchuk, Guwahati: Northeastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC) organized the stone laying ceremony for "Norteast Haat," also known as Ashtalaxmi Haat, at the NEHHDC Campus in Garchuk, Guwahati with the esteemed presence of Shri Moses Chalai, IAS, Secretary (North East Council), as the chief guest, accompanied by Shri Sanjay Gupta, Chief Engineer (CPWD), Smti. R Lalrodingi, Advisor (Banking, Industries, and Tourism) NEC, Shri PVSLN Murty, Chairman & Managing Director (NEDFi), Shri M.C Omi Niingshen, Managing Director (NECBDC), Cmde. Rajiv Ashok (Retd.) Managing Director (NERAMAC) & Dr.Geetima Das Krishna, Head North East Desk (Invest India).
Brig. R.K Singh (Retd.) MD (NEHHDC) addressed the gathering about Ashtalaxmi Haat funded buy North Eastern Council marks a significant milestone in promoting the rich cultural heritage and exquisite craftsmanship of the Northeastern region. Inspired by the success of the renowned Dilli Haat in Delhi, this initiative aims to provide a dedicated platform for artisans to showcase and sell their exquisite products, while also catering to the vibrant food culture of the region through a well-designed food court. Additionally, the Haat will offer a hostel facility to facilitate the stay of artisans and visitors alike, promoting tourism and fostering cultural exchange.
Mr Moses Chalai, IAS, Secretary North Eastern Council during his speech said "NEHHDC has made good progress in the last two years. It is now focusing on developing the craft sector & building capacity of the artisanal community, which is for what NEHHDC had been created by the Government of India & not to get involved with sourcing & retailing themselves".
He further added that he is happy to see the diverse activities NEHHDC has taken up to benefit and skill the youth of NER. He complimented the Team NEHHDC for its dedication and hard work. In the end he wished NEHHDC a bright future
